The weather has been hot with lots of sunshine – which are your typical Midwest summer days. But honestly, it’s been perfect. We spend the days at the pool and then the evenings on our bikes or at the park. Then, we come home to cool off with a big bowl of Hudsonville Ice Cream. Because what’s summer without ice cream? It’s the sweet treat our family looks forward to and the ideal summer staple too!

Fun Fact: Did you know July is National Ice Cream Month?

And I bet we can all agree that this is a holiday we should ALL be celebrating! So I decided one afternoon that we would do some family creating to honor this momentous occasion. My kids have been all about helping in the kitchen lately. I even purchased these cute kid safety knives so they can help cut and prep food for dinner each night! But we love to bake and make recipes together, which is why I thought it would be perfect to create a dessert recipe as a family.

After some brainstorming, we came up with a tasty recipe that has now become a family favorite. Hot Fudge Sundae Bites (because July 25th is National Hot Fudge Sundae Day too!) are so simple to make and even yummier to eat! Plus the fact they are bite sized makes them perfect for those little hands.

The ingredients are simple. You need mini brownies (you can buy them in the grocery bakery or even make them on your own), ice cream and hot fudge. We decided on using three of our favorite Hudsonville Ice Cream flavors to change things up! We went with a classic flavor, Vanilla Bean, because that one was a given! And then my little chocolate lovers talked me into also using Hudsonville Chocolate Ice Cream for a chocolate on chocolate on chocolate effect! And I went with Mackinac Island Fudge so we could get the true hot fudge sundae taste in these bites.

Creating our Hot Fudge Sundae Bites was so much fun. All the scooping and assembling made it such a great family activity. Since there weren’t too many steps involved either, the kids took most of the responsibility and enjoyed making their own dessert for our family.

You Need:

  • Your favorite Hudsonville Ice Cream flavors
  • Mini Brownies – you can purchase these in the bakery at your grocery store or make them on your own
  • Hot Fudge
  • Optional: Whipped Cream Topping

Let’s Create:

  1. Place the mini brownie on a plate. You will need two brownies per treat.
  2. Top one of the brownies with your Hudsonville Ice Cream.
  3. Combine the brownies together to make a sandwich.
  4. Next, drizzle hot fudge over completed treats.
  5. Freeze for up to an hour to harden the Hot Fudge Sundae Bite and enjoy!

I think we ALL scream for ice cream – especially during these hot, summer months. So here’s to creating memories and celebrating this holiday together!
