Berry Picking Around Indianapolis moms blog

Now that school’s out for summer, what are you and your kids going to do to fill the days? How about berry picking? It gets everyone outside, burns energy, and at the end you get a reward for your efforts. Few things are better than a delicious, juicy summer strawberry or just-picked, fresh blueberry. Aside from the health benefits of the berries, the memories you make sharing this activity with your kids will last a lifetime. Who knows – you may start an annual summer tradition. Below you will find some top picks for picking:

Spencer Farm: Noblesville; Hours: 9a-7p Monday thru Saturday, 12p-6p Sunday; offers U-pick and pre-picked strawberries. Be sure to stop by the farm store for a generous selection of additional produce and sweet treats.

Waterman’s Family Farm: Greenwood and Indianapolis; visit the Indy location on Raymond St. June 6-7 for their Strawberry Jam celebration to kick off the season, with live performances, community vendors, games, & food. Indy location open late May through early November, 8a-8p; Greenwood location open Strawberry and Pumpkin season only – contact the farm directly for hours.

Driving Wind Blueberry Farm: located off Michigan Rd. in Indianapolis, this urban farm is slated to have blueberries for picking in July. Check their Facebook page for updates.

Bell’s Strawberry Farm: If you’re in the mood for a day trip, this farm, located halfway between Indy and Dayton, OH, currently offers pre-picked strawberries, with U-pick beginning soon, once the berries ripen. Open 8a-7p Monday through Saturday. Check their Facebook page for updates.

Lisa
Having moved ten times while growing up, Lisa couldn’t imagine living anywhere for more than two or three years. But after graduating from IU and meeting a guy from “that school up north”, she decided to ditch the nomadic life, plant some roots, and has called Indy home since 2001. She and her husband, Matt, officially became a house divided in 2007, and shortly thereafter added to their family an energetic, food-obsessed Labrador named Reggie. After surviving puppyhood, they felt confident enough to venture into parenthood with the birth of their daughters, Ava, in 2011, and most recently, Emme, in 2014. After 10+ years as a Registered Nurse in fields varying from ICU, to transplant, to insurance case management, she decided to hang up her stethoscope and became a stay at home mom in early 2015. In addition, she is an active volunteer at her church, loves singing, reading, exercising, and spontaneous dance parties with her littles. She believes laughter makes the world go round and never misses her morning coffee, even if it has to be rewarmed ten times throughout the day. True to her upbringing, Lisa has lived in various Indy area locales, from Greenwood to Carmel and in between. She and her family currently reside in Noblesville. Lisa loves being a mom and loves Indianapolis, so this is a perfect venue to share that love with moms in the Indy area and beyond.
