Our Indianapolis Family Bucket List

Our family loves to have adventures. On any given weekend, you’ll find us exploring, hiking, or traveling. However, despite our love for the new and exciting, we often find ourselves traversing the same places because they’re comfortable and we like them. Don’t get me wrong, when you find a place you like, it can be nice to become a patron, but if your goal is to discover new places and have new experiences, it’s important to takes steps to make that goal a reality. In order to become more involved in our city and to mix up our outings, we decided to put together an Indy bucket list.

Our first step was to sit down together and make a list of all of the places we’ve been wanting to visit but haven’t yet. The next step was to post our bucket list in a prominent place in our home. We chose the coat closet door so that we’ll see it every time we come home. I hung some yarn, added some clothespins, and wrote each bucket list item on a paint chip sample (which you can get for free at any store that sells home paint). Overall, the project didn’t cost a cent and helped us avoid the “what do you want to do today?” “I don’t care; what do you want to do?” conversation.

Without further ado, here’s our 2016 Indy Bucket List:

  1. Visit Warren Dunes State Park and paint our bodies in mud
  2. Visit Nashville, Indiana in the fall for all the gorgeous foliage
  3. Climb the 330 steps to the top of the Soliders and Sailors Moument at Monument Circle
  4. Eat our way through summer farmer’s markets
  5. Visit the Holliday Park Nature Center
  6. Have a donut at The Dancing Donut in Broadripple
  7.  Attend the Indiana State Fair
  8. Walk around Butler as a family (go dawgs!)
  9. Jump our hearts out at Sky Zone
  10. Ride the mommy and me swings at Forest Park in Noblesville
  11. Take our Border Collie Luna to a dog park
  12. Walk the Fall Creek Trail to visit a friend

Katie Q
Katie is a Butler University graduate, who was lucky enough to meet her husband the third day of college. After graduating as one of Butler’s top 10 women, she went on to do Teach for America; South Carolina. She was a second grade teacher in a school with a high Hispanic population and loved every second of it. Never intending to be a stay-at-home parent, she worked until the day before she gave birth, took one look into her son’s eyes, and decided she wanted to be a stay-at-home mom after all. After re-prioritizing upon the birth of their son, Katie and her husband decided to move back to Indianapolis to be closer to family. She recently graduated with her master’s degree in education. She loves to cook, celebrate holidays, watch movies, party plan, travel the world, take walks, and play with her Border Collie. You will likely find her seeking adventure, hunting for bargains, helping others get healthy through her passion as a health coach, or cuddling on the couch with her hubby, baby, and puppy.
