January 4th

Indiana Pacers versus Phoenix Suns

Our hometown Indiana Pacers are playing the Phoenix Suns on January 4th, so come cheer them on! It’s a great chance to get out of the house during the winter. And what better way than to check out a game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse!


January 4th

Last Day of Festival of Trees

The Festival of Trees features more than 85 beautifully decorated trees in a winter wonderland “representing individuals, families, and organizations from around Indiana.”


January 5th

Last Day of Winterlights at Newfields

Winterlights at Newfields has become a tradition for my family and you still have a chance to see them sparkle. Winterlights features over a million and a half lights glittering in The Garden for the eighth year in a row, and you have to see it in person because photos and videos do not do it justice!


January 9th

uPaint A Story at uPaint Pottery Studio Greenwood

Buckle up for an adventure where pottery painting meets snowy tales during uPaint a Story! In this creative event at the uPaint Pottery Studio in Greenwood, you will read “How to Catch a Yeti” and paint a cute Yeti plaque. Register to reserve your spot – cost is $15 per painter.


January 11th-12th

Greater Indianapolis Garage Sale & Marketplace

The Indianapolis Garage Sale will be held at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, and it needs to be, because this event is HUGE. From the event website, “Indy’s bargain hunter’s paradise is back with hundreds of booths in two pavilions, offering a plethora of items at unbelievable rock bottom prices.”


January 18th

Harlem Globetrotters

The Harlem Globetrotters 2025 World Tour is coming to Indy on January 18th at Gainbridge Fieldhouse! My son loves going to see the Harlem Globetrotters, because they are very entertaining with their basketball skills and cool tricks. The game is at 1:00 pm.


January 20th

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Events & Free Museum Admissions

Family Storytime at Indianapolis Public Library – College Ave Branch

Head to the College Avenue Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library for family storytime! From 10:30-11:30 am, families can enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes. No registration is required. To see the full list of Indianapolis Public Library events, click here.


January 22nd-26th

Disney On Ice Presents Frozen & Encanto

I might be more excited about this than my kids – Disney on Ice is coming to Indy! Disney on Ice Presents Frozen & Encanto will be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse from January 22nd-26th. From the event website, “Dazzling ice skating transports you to Arendelle to be a part of Anna’s adventure to find Elsa, whose icy powers unleashed an eternal winter. Olaf, Kristoff and Sven take you along as they encounter wintry conditions in a race to bring back summer. Then, enter the fantastical Madrigal family’s Casita amidst the beautiful mountains of Colombia. Join Mirabel on her journey to save her enchanted family home alongside her sisters, Isabela and Luisa.”

Devour Indy Begins

With more than 100 restaurants participating, Devour Indy begins on January 20th and ends February 2nd. Check out their website for a full list of participating restaurants!


January 25th

Stay And Play at the Indiana State Museum

Head to the Indiana State Museum on January 25th from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm for a self-led play experience in Firefly Landing where young children and their caregivers participate in open-ended play and family learning. These two-hour sessions provide a space to explore a variety of tools and activities while also building connections with other families. The program changes every month and includes sensory play, STEAM activities, music and movement. Register here.  


January 28th

Affordable Family Fun Night at Skateland

Skateland in Indianapolis offers multiple ways to come skate with them, including Affordable Family Fun Night. It’s just $7 per person plus $5 additional for a skate rental!


January 28th

Knights of the Square Table Chess Club at Carmel Clay Public Library

Registration opens January 21st for Knights of the Square Table Chess Club at the Carmel Clay Public Library. Volunteers from the Carmel High School Chess Club will be at this special chess club to give you tips and tricks — and maybe take you up on a challenge! Beginners are most welcome. No experience is necessary. Participants must be in grades K–3 and accompanied by a caregiver.


January 31st

Annie Begins at Clowes Memorial Hall

The sun’ll come out, January 31st! Clowes Memorial Hall is hosting the musical Annie, running until February 2nd. From the website, “Holding onto hope when times are tough can take an awful lot of determination, and sometimes, an awful lot of determination comes in a surprisingly small package. Little Orphan Annie has reminded generations of theatergoers that sunshine is always right around the corner. Now, the best-loved musical of all time returns in a new production – just as you remember it and when we need it most.” Check the website for ticket information.
