If you’re like me, you worry about the unknown. Especially when it comes to your children, you might worry about having to take them to the emergency room. Where do I take them? What are their hours? How long will we have to wait? Will my baby get the care they need? Well worry no more! Riley Children’s Health at IU Health North in Carmel was designed with families and children in mind. Their 24/7 pediatric emergency care team is here for you, closer to home. Here are three things you need to know before you go.

Specialty care in the Emergency Department and beyond.
From the moment you and your child come in for emergency care, you will be in great hands. Not only will the medical staff greet you and involve you in the entire process, there will also be a Child Life Specialist on hand to keep your child comfortable and feeling safe. The Riley Child Life Program was created to help minimize anxiety about upcoming treatments, tests, or hospitalizations.
Should your child need care beyond the Emergency Department – primary, specialty, or inpatient care – Riley Children’s is there to support you and your family. “Parents can expect quality and individualized pediatric emergency care from Riley physicians, nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and child-life specialists,” says Dr. Slubowski. “The physicians with whom you interact at IU Health North have good relationships with the numerous Riley specialists as well. Therefore, we will work to ensure not only quality care within the Emergency Department at IU Health North, but also an excellent transition of care to the appropriate Riley specialists upon discharge or admission.” To see a full list of departments as well as information on outpatient pediatric surgeries at Riley Children’s at IU Health North, go to RileyatNorth.org.
