Moms, Don’t Sleep on Boone County

Looking for things to do in Boone County?  You may already be familiar with bigger events like Brick Street Market or Mischief on Meridian, but there are a lot of small experiences tucked around the county, some for adults and some for families that you need to know too.

And before you tell me how busy your summer is (or any other time of year, really), just a reminder: sometimes you need a reason to leave your house when it’s not for grocery shopping or acting as a taxi for your kids.  So here are a few of my favorites (and no, I’m not paid by anyone to do this – I just love Boone County!).

Zionsville:

  • Abby’s Garden Parties – Schedule a time to make a terrarium like my daughter and I did last summer. Or, Abby will put together take-home kits for parties and team-building events as she did for my daughter’s Not a Taylor Swift Party a few years ago.
  • SullivanMunce Cultural Center – I love their kids’ summer art camps, but there are so many other experiences offered here year-round.

Lebanon:

  • Heart of Lebanon – Lebanon’s Main Street group offers lots of year-round programming, often partnering with the Lebanon Arts Council. My daughter and I took a lei-making class from Aloha Indy Leis this past winter.  We’ve previously joined a Bob Ross-esque painting class too.
  • Fire & Fern Apothecary – Candle-making classes. (And it’s a cute plant shop too!)

Boone County in general:

  • Dull’s Tree Farm – You may go there for your pumpkin or Christmas tree, but they occasionally offer classes like wreath-making.
  • Cochran’s Cakes – In Jamestown, you can take a cake-decorating class.  The cakes are stinking adorable. This one’s on our list.
  • Sugar Creek Arts Center – In Thorntown, SCAC has plenty of classes – mom & me, kids’ only, adult classes – covering anything from weaving to making your own wind chimes to making a needle-felted cactus pincushion.

This list isn’t exhaustive, of course, but I hope it gets you started in exploring what may be a new area to you!
