Why We Play Flag Football

More than ever, families around the country are getting involved with flag football. It is more than just a game. Flag football instills lifelong lessons and builds community among the players and teams each season. But most importantly, parents and caregivers will agree that it is a sport that helps build confidence in their children – which is one of the best benefits of all. So why should your family play flag football? We interviewed several people and here are a few (of the many!) reasons why they play flag football.

Teaches Teamwork and Inclusivity

Flag football focuses on community but also instilling the important value of true teamwork. Players must work together and positively interact with one another in order to be successful. Because of this, flag is a great sport for both boys and girls. There are no height or weight restrictions, making it a game that everyone can play. Teammates learn to play with everyone and adapt to each skill level. But best of all, flag football creates lifelong friendships and memories.

Flag Football Instills Sportsmanship

One of the hardest lessons of playing a sport is understanding that you can’t win every game. Flag football helps teach good sportsmanship to players and emphasizes what it means to lose gracefully – and also win graciously. Flag also teaches the importance of positive sportsmanship when a team wins and what winner behavior looks like on the field.

Builds Confidence and Promotes Fitness

Youth participation in sports has declined over 13% over the last decade, but more and more kids are choosing flag football to stay active. Flag helps players with the skills needed to build their personal confidence not only on the field but also in every day life. Players are physically active and learning what it means to be a good teammate from others, and creating life-long healthy habits.

Flag football is for all ages, genders and skill levels. It is more than just a game. It is a sport that promotes life skills and healthy habits that your child will continue to carry on.
