It is no coincidence that National Ice Cream month is celebrated in the middle of summer. Ice cream is the true symbol of all things summer! From ice cream cones on the back patio to milkshakes with hamburgers from the grill – it wouldn’t be summer without this tasty treat. And it seems that some of our best summer memories all revolve around ice cream too. But as my kids get older, I feel myself holding on and trying to make these summer memories together. So this summer I decided to make it a challenge – because what kiddo can resist a challenge? Enter: The Hudsonville Ice Cream Bucket List.

I’ll be honest, my kids aren’t very adventurous so I knew this would take some convincing. My girls are strictly Blue Moon or SuperScoop fans while my son sticks pretty hard with Hudsonville Ice Cream’s Mint Chocolate Chip flavor. But a challenge is a challenge and in our household, this family is competitive! We started by listing out all of the Hudsonville Ice Cream flavors to make our bucket list. I told them we had one month to try as many of these flavors that we could. And when I say try, I mean you have to take a big bite. Luckily we started the challenge off pretty strong and were able to cross off a few of our favorite flavors that have already filled up our freezer this season. But with a few weeks left of National Ice Cream month, I told them it was time to try something new!

The next step was to try a few new flavors. We grabbed some ice cream cones and a few Extra Indulgent pints – Cookie Overload,Crunchy Peanut Butter and Raspberry Chocolate Chunk. (For some reason, ice cream just tastes better in a cone!) I loved that the pints were smaller but still full of flavor. And since we were just wanting to taste a few new flavors, this was exactly what we were looking to use. When we got home, the kids quickly finished off the Cookie Overload and decided it was a top three favorite flavor now. But we spent the afternoon laughing on the front porch with our Hudsonville Ice Cream cones and making a plan as to what flavors we would get next for our bucket list. This was by far one of my favorite summer memories this year. Simple and sweet – perfect for this mama’s heart.

I was proud of my kids for trying something new. Our Hudsonville Ice Cream Bucket List pushed them out of their sweet comfort zone and into something new. And best of all we have been having a blast with the challenge and we are creating new memories together. The girls have requested we continue our bucket list every summer from now on – and I completely agree with them on this one!
