The Mommy Wars: School Edition

0

I guess I did not realize it until now, until it was my turn to decide…how much of a hot topic children’s education is. And along with it comes the temptation to compare. It is becoming another one of those mommy wars. Or maybe it always has been?

From bumper stickers to Instagram posts, the pressure is real as the occasional feeling of failure or fear also slowly creeps in.

Choices abound: homeschool, private school, public school, classical school, immersion school, unschooled, etc.

Each person thinks their decision is best. And you know what? It probably is. We are our children’s parent for a reason. We love, care and know what is best for them.

And for the others to whom we are indifferent to or do not necessarily agree with? Why don’t we try cheering them on? Let us cheer them on because we know they are trying their utmost to make the best decision for their family.

We need to remember to never assume we know what it feels like to be in someone else’s shoes, to remember we don’t always have all the information. Let us remember to love on one another and that we are all in this together.

The mommy wars do not need to win. We can rise above them.

And ultimately, at the end of the day, regardless of the philosophy of schooling we choose for our kids, our children are under our care. We are always their teachers in the school of life.
