::Heart of IMB – Non-Profit Spotlight:: Love Broad Ripple

There’s something about a neighborhood that knows how to gather.

Not for a big, once-a-year blowout—but for something smaller, steadier, and just as meaningful. Something that says: come as you are, come often, come together.

That’s exactly what’s returning to Broad Ripple Village.

A Monthly Moment That Matters

Third Thursdays are back—and not just back, but rooted in something deeper than an event series.

What started as a grassroots idea from Love, Broad Ripple has quickly become a rhythm the neighborhood can count on. From March through October, the village will transform once a month into a space where connection comes first—where sidewalks turn social, storefronts feel like front porches, and everyone is invited exactly as they are.

The First Thing We Heard

When my family moved back to Indianapolis last fall after a few years away, this was the very first thing people mentioned.

“You have to check out Third Thursdays.

So we did.

And it was exactly what you hope for when you’re finding your way back home. My 13-year-old was instantly all in—drawn to the music, the movement, the energy. We listened to live bands, tried restaurants we hadn’t been to before, ran into old friends we hadn’t seen in years, and made new ones too.

It didn’t feel like an event. It felt like a soft landing back into our community.

More Than a Vibe

If you’ve followed the conversation around Broad Ripple lately, you know this neighborhood has been navigating some real questions.

For decades, there’s been a push-and-pull between identities—cultural district or bar scene, destination or neighborhood, past reputation or future vision.

Layer in more recent challenges—perceptions around safety, empty storefronts, and the effects of construction and disruption—and it’s clear this isn’t just about events.

It’s about creating spaces where people feel welcome. Where they can show up, connect, and begin to truly celebrate the neighborhood–and each other.

Where Love, Broad Ripple Steps In

That’s where Love, Broad Ripple steps in—with a simple but powerful idea: come as you are, and come together.

Their mission is to create consistent, accessible opportunities for people to show up—for the neighborhood and for each other—just as they are.

Third Thursdays quietly solve for a few things at once:

  • They shift the energy earlier, toward families and community
  • They bring positive foot traffic to local businesses
  • They create shared experiences that reshape perception over time
  • They remind people what Broad Ripple is at its best

Not through a campaign.
Through presence. Through people.

From Pop-Up to Pull-Together

As the weather warms, so does the energy.

From May through September, Third Thursdays expand into open-air pop-up markets—featuring local makers, live music, and art.

You might come for a candle or a cocktail…but stay because it’s easy to be there.
Because your kid found a song they love. Because you bumped into someone who remembers your name. Because you are a part of something.

Built With Businesses in Mind

One of the most thoughtful pieces of this year’s expansion? It’s not just about neighbors—it’s about the businesses that make Broad Ripple Broad Ripple.

This season includes a playbook for local businesses, giving them simple, clear ways to participate—without adding overwhelm. Themes, timelines, and ideas help everyone show up in a way that feels aligned and energized.

More Than an Event

Third Thursdays aren’t just dates on a calendar.

They’re a reminder that vibrant places don’t happen by accident—they happen when people choose to show up for them, again and again.

And that consistency builds something bigger than an event—it builds belonging.

So whether you’re new, returning (like us), or have never left, this season offers eight chances to step into something special.

Come out. Connect.

Shop early. Support something local.

Dine late. Dance.

Whatever floats your boat.

If our first night back was any indication, you might just leave feeling a little more connected than when you arrived.
