Indianapolis Moms Blog will highlight a local non-profit business for our city each month. This month we are excited to share with our readers a non-profit that was founded by one of our very own contributors, Amanda Evans-Clark.

About Cocktails & Chemo

Cocktails & Chemo is a non-profit dedicated to caring for caregivers. Here in Indianapolis, they host a monthly Sip & Support get together for caregivers to meet other people who “get it” and take a night for themselves to refuel. This is hosted on the last Thursday of every month.

Outside of their in-person events, this organization also hosts online support groups and sends care packages and care cards to caregivers who are nominated on our website. Cocktails & Chemo’s mission is to care for the often forgotten caregivers who are sacrificing so much to care for a sick loved one.

The Foundation currently has three chapters, Chicago, Indianapolis, and Minneapolis and sends more than $500 a month to caregivers across the country. The group also offers an #OurTribe grant to help families offset the cost of childcare while a parent is sick and in treatments at the hospital. When the world is falling apart, the biggest worry is making sure the children are safe and protected as best we can so mom and dad can get back to fighting!

How Cocktails and Chemo Got Started

Cocktails & Chemo started as a blog, a place where Joe and Amanda Clark would share their personal account as a young couple facing a deadly disease. Joe was diagnosed with colon cancer when he was 28 years old and just two months before the couple would wed. They blogged about their accounts as they faced chemotherapy instead of a honeymoon and through the birth of their daughter. When Joe died in 2014, Amanda felt a calling to recognize other caregivers like herself in her late husband’s honor. Everything the foundation does is rooted in Joe’s message to, “Live Loud. Love Deep. Cry Hard & Take More Pictures.”

Cocktails & Chemo will host their next event, Indy Sip & Support, on February 28th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at The Hatch 6161 N. Hillside Avenue. For more information, check out their Facebook event page here.
