Life is full of the newest and greatest “hacks” being presented to us in advertising, social media, and even our Indianapolis Moms website. Who doesn’t love a good life hack that can make our everyday life go a bit smoother? The rub, though, is that there is no life hack for most of life. There are no easy solutions.
In an age where advertising and social media influencers promise easy solutions to common problems, it is easy to be tempted to believe a simple hack is a long-sought-after solution to any challenge. Life and its obstacles are rarely so easily solved. Whether it’s improving our own health, helping our children navigate challenges, or dealing with large-scale social issues, we could all benefit from the reminder that there is no hack. There are no easy solutions. Real solutions take time, commitment, and tenacity.
There are no easy solutions. This framework is so far removed from our fast-paced, quick-fix, minimal-effort mindset of the modern day that it’s easy to get discouraged. I can order something on Amazon in the morning and have it on my porch that night. I can order my groceries and pick them up an hour later without ever leaving my car. If I want to read a book, I can borrow it from the Libby app from my library in mere seconds. Our expectations of immediacy are deeply embedded in our everyday life. If we change our frame of mind, I think we could all benefit from recognizing that there are no easy solutions. If we want change in our life, family, or world, it’s time to pull up our sleeves and get to work. In an age of hacks, there’s only one that rings true every time, and it’s that there are no easy solutions.
